In animals you can use a catheter many times without sterilization, we know locations where CD Leycom catheters have been used 80 times before malfunction occurs. But when these catheters are sterilized the material de-integrates and the catheter becomes "stiffer" and "porous". In that case your application dictates how many times the catheter can be used.
